CINNAMON NUTCRACKER PORTER ~ BLACK OAK

Sampled on cask.  Nutcracker Porter is one of Black Oak’s holiday offerings.  It pours a lovely dark brown with a slight ruby hue.  A finger’s height of beige head lasted several minutes and left good lacing on the glass.  The aroma is that of roasted malts, dark fruit – reminds me of fruitcake, spice and cinnamon.  The taste followed with much the same.  The porter was not overly cinnamony, which was a pleasant surprise.  The roasted malts, nuttiness and dark fruit were nicely balanced by a subtle hops and spice.  I was expecting this porter to have a richer mouth-feel than I did, I found it a little thin but would gladly sip it again on a cold night.
