MEIN HOPFENWEISSE/ SCHNEIDER-BROOKLYNER (TAP5) ~ WEISSES BRÄHAUS G. SCHNEIDER & SOHNS

This Weizenbock is a joint effort from long-time friends Garrett Oliver (Brooklyn Brewery Brew master, New York) and Hans-Peter Drexler (Schneider Brew master).   The two brew masters were admirers of each other’s work.  Garrett liked the balance of flavours in Schneider's Weisse and Drexler admired the hoppy character of some of Brooklyn breweries beers.  The creation is a dry-hopped pale Weissbock that has been brewed since 2008. Our bottle poured an opaque dark yellow with a good head that diminished slowly.    The nose is a lovely melange of overripe bananas, spice, yeast and hops, with many subtleties.  The taste is lots of ripe fruit, especially banana and other tropical fruits, clove and other spice, a slight sweetness, bready malt and a satisfying floral hop bitterness.  The beer is well balanced and quite complex in flavour – not an easy feat.   At 8.2% this beer did not taste as boozy as it is.  Very drinkable - Excellent beer!
Hops:  Hallertauer Tradition and Saphir
Malts: 50 % wheat malt, 50 % barley malt from the region of Kelheim
Bottle and keg conditioned

8.2% from Kelheim, Germany  IBU 40
