MOROCCAN BROWN ~ SPEARHEAD

Sampled on draught, Moroccan Brown is an American-Style Brown Ale. It is inspired by the flavours of the Maghreb region of Morocco and is brewed with cinnamon, dates, raisins and figs. The beer poured a hazy dark brown colour with coppery highlights and a creamy off white head that left some good lacing after lingering for quite a while. Dried fruit, dark tree fruit, caramel and Demerara sugar, and dark malts make up the nose. The taste is similar to the nose with dark malts, fruit, Demerara sugar spice and a mild hop bitterness, which gives the brew a dry finish. The beer has a medium carbonation and body and is very nicely balanced. I enjoyed this brew and would love to sip on it while sampling from a cheese plate.

HAWAIIAN STYLE PALE ALE ~ SPEARHEAD

Sampled on draught.  Spearhead’s Hawaiian Pale ale is brewed in the hoppy west coast tradition – with a touch of pineapple.  It is naturally carbonated, unfiltered and dry hopped.  The beer began as an experiment in the brewer’s kitchen with a bunch of leftover pineapple that was kicking around, the rest is history.
It pours a hazy coppery colour with a good foamy head.  Pine, pineapple and citrusy grapefruit round out the aroma.   It is quite a hoppy quaff , beginning with hints and caramel then lots of piny and citrusy hops.  Finishes dry with a very subtle sweetness, and a bittersweet aftertaste.
Malts: Pale Malt, Caramel 10, Caramel 45, Light Munich, Caramel Malt-Pils
Hops: : Cascade, Centennial, Northern Brewer
Yeasts: California Ale

SPEARHEAD ~ JAMAICAN FIRE
Holy smokes this stout is packed with flavour! Sampled on draft, this beer is brewed with coffee, mangos and scotch bonnet peppers. The beer poured a nice dark brown, with a large cream coffee brown head and lace. The nose has lots of very dark roasty malts, and coffee with hints of spice. The taste is packed with explosive flavour. Tons of full bodied coffee and roasted malts start the beer. Then the spice kicks in with a warming heat. The peppers are not overpowering but do give a wee kick! The subtle heat lingers. Enjoyed the half pint I had, but couldn’t commit to any more. A bold and very tasty brew.

Malts: Pale malt, Maris Otter, Carabohemian, Black Prinz, Roasted Barley
Hops: Northern Brewer, Goldings,
Yeast: California Ale
Other : mango, Scotch Bonnet Peppers and coffee
