BERLINER WEISSE ~ ROYAL CITY
Sampled on draught this Berliner, is quite sour. The beer poured a hazy very pale golden straw yellow, with a thin white head. The head lasted several minutes leaving a cap in its place. The smell was a bit odd; I can’t place my finger on it, but does contain lots of sourness, and crackery graininess. The palette is crisp and sharp. Very tart lemony lactic sourness dominates with a graininess and green apple in the background. The beer is light and refreshing, and well carbonated. The finish is somewhat crisp with a lingering acidic tartness. I don’t know how long Royal City has been around, but I have had three of their beers in the last year. So far I have liked what I had. This is an ‘okay’ Berliner once you get over the nose.
