LION’S GRASS ~ HIGHLANDER BREWING
Lion Grass is a Golden Ale made with lemon grass and dandelion leaves, from one of Ontario’s most northerly craft brewers. The beer poured a golden colour with a good sized fluffy white head. The head had good retention and left foamy lacing. The nose had grain, malts, a hint of lemon and a floral earthiness. The flavour was very similar to the nose, lots of grainy malt up front and then a hop bitterness (cascade) that is complimented with the herbal bitterness of the dandelion leaves. I wish the lemon grass had been a little more detectable. It had medium carbonation and mouthfeel. I liked the balance between the malts and the herbals in this beer, it would make good drinking on a hot day.

SCOTTISH ALE ~ HIGHLANDER BREW CO.

Highlander Brew Co. is located in South River, Ontario, in the Almaguin Highlands from which Highlander takes its name. The brewery is on the Northern edge of Algonquin Park, positioning Highlander as one of the most northerly craft breweries in Ontario.
The Scottish ale (from a bottle) poured rich coppery colour, with a thin layer of head.  The aroma was rich with a plethora of flavours to dance in your nose:  Floral hops, carmamelly malts, a little blackstrap molasses and bread and yeasts.    The taste leads with a caramelly maltiness, a wheaty breadiness and finishes with mild hops.  Though the beer finishes somewhat dry, hops are not the headliner, the malts are.  A fine pint indeed!
